Protexis Appoints New Chairman

September 11, 2003, Vancouver, BC – Protexis Inc. announced today that Karl Hirsch has joined Protexis as Chairman of the Board.

With over 17 years experience in the computer software space, Mr. Hirsch is a seasoned executive and a successful entrepreneur - having founded, built and divested notable computer software companies Preview Software, a cutting-edge digital rights management company, and OneChannel, an analytics software company.

"I am excited to join Protexis, a company with exciting customer and technology momentum in the new digital licensing marketplace," said Karl Hirsch. "The last 10 years in the area of digital rights management (DRM) have seen remarkable evolution with the creation of a broad spectrum of DRM models and technologies including commercial, home-grown, and hardware solutions. There is now a clear demand for a DRM standard that balances the need for adequate copy-protection of digital content with the demand for end-user convenience and privacy. The Protexis platform is a major leap forward and has the potential to become a true digital rights standard – transforming the way software is both acquired and protected."

"Adding Karl to the board is a significant step in the growth of Protexis," said Glen Smeltzer, Canadian Science & Technology Growth Fund Manager. "We are confident that Karl will be able to maximize our investment in Protexis and assist us in executing our strategic initiative of becoming the industry leader in the DRM space."

"Karl brings a wealth of experience and contacts to Protexis," said Murray Hendren, Protexis CEO. "His knowledge of the industry and past experience in digital licensing will be a great asset as we continue to build our company and sales channels."

Mr. Hirsch's active involvement in industry associations, including 2 years as Chairman and internet Division board member of the Software Information and Industry Association (SIIA), participation in the internet Committee on Electronic Software Distribution (ESD) and Electronic Commerce for the Computer Trade Industry Association (CompTIA), and as an architect partner of the RosettaNet E-com Initiative makes him well-known and respected in the industry. He holds a BS degree from the University of California at Los Angeles.
