Protexis Provides Licensing and E-commerce Solution for Broderbund®

February 22, 2006, Vancouver, BC – Protexis Inc., provider of e-commerce and digital rights management (DRM) hosted services for software publishers, today announced it is providing trialware technology for Broderbund®, a wholly owned subsidiary of Riverdeep, the leading publisher of digital education content for both school and home.

Protexis is providing Broderbund trial technology for titles such as The Print Shop®, PrintMaster®, Kid Pix®, Calendar Creator™, and Mavis Beacon®, allowing Broderbund customers to download various products and try them for a set period of time, before making a purchase. This is the first time Broderbund has offered its products in a trial format.

"Broderbund offers some of the most popular off-the-shelf consumer software titles on the market today. We're pleased to be working with Riverdeep as they venture into new territory with online trial, sale and distribution of their products, and we're very encouraged by the early results we're seeing," said Karl Hirsch, president and chief executive officer of Protexis. "With a leader like Riverdeep taking such a huge step towards online trial versions of mass market products and selecting Protexis to provide the infrastructure to do so, we believe this further demonstrates that Protexis is an emerging leader in online licensing and sale of software through multiple global channels."

"We're excited about the trial-to-sale conversion rates of the first few products that we've enabled with Protexis technology," said Rebecca Young, Riverdeep's vice president of e-commerce and marketing. "Our products are already among the most popular in the market, and our ability to let customers try the software before buying is expected to increase sales even further."

Riverdeep selected Protexis for its hosted trial and e-commerce solution based on a variety of factors, including Protexis' ability to work with best-selling products that require no alterations to the products' code base. This, combined with the wide variety of licensing configurations available, allows Riverdeep to add registration, trial, licensing and e-commerce as needed to their products, to have them readily available for online distribution.
