Protexis' Fourth Patent Approved, Further Expanding Its IP Portfolio for E-commerce and DRM for Digital Content

August 23, 2006, Vancouver, BC – Protexis, provider of on-demand e-commerce and digital rights management (DRM) services for software publishers, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has approved a patent that expands the company's patent holdings surrounding its system of copy protection, electronic licensing, and e-commerce services for software and digital content. Three other patents covering fundamental aspects of the Protexis platform have already been issued, with several others pending.

These patents cover unique product activation technology that enables Protexis to offer software publishers new ways to market and license their software. Using dynamic encryption, publishers can provide their customers the ability to sample and share new software features, ultimately increasing revenue for publishers at very low cost. This technology also affords simplified packaging and decryption of multiple protected items.

"Publishers and their channel partners need a secure and efficient infrastructure, finely tuned for the internet, to capitalize on the surging market for global electronic distribution of software," said Karl Hirsch, CEO of Protexis. "Our goal is to provide this efficient infrastructure through our patented, channel neutral platform, allowing software publishers to focus on building their businesses and outsourcing these very difficult and critical elements of protecting, selling and distributing their products online."

"Receiving this fourth patent is another important milestone as Protexis accelerates on its vision and growth plan. We're committed to building an intellectual property portfolio around our expertise in enabling state-of-the-art global distribution of digital content," said Hirsch. "We have additional patents pending and will continue to build legal protection for our innovations to help our customers compete successfully."
