Protexis and CNET Networks Partner, Integrate Protexis Customer Registration Service Into Download.com Distribution Website for Software Publishers

November 30, 2004, Vancouver, BC – Protexis, a leading provider of hosted services that help software publishers grow their online businesses, today announced a partnership and service integration with CNET Networks. Protexis and CNET Networks have integrated Protexis customer registration services into the Upload.com publisher area of the CNET Download.com web site. The integrated service allows publishers to capture and manage valuable end-user data on trialware products directly through their Upload.com account.

Publishers configure and apply Protexis customer registration services to their product with just a few clicks involving no complex integration or product modifications. Protexis customer registration services then go to work, capturing registration data from end users who download products from CNET Download.com. Protexis customer registration takes place during product installation, potentially increasing the number of completed downloads and registrations. Customer information is stored in a secure database that publishers view in real-time through their Upload Manager account. Publishers then use the data to drive relationship marketing programs, including:

  • Targeted promotional messages and sales offers to specific user profiles
  • Selling value-added services such as tech support and upgrades to customers
  • Testing new market opportunities or product capabilities

"Publishers who capture complete and valid end-user data through registration and who use that information to drive customer marketing can double or triple their conversion rates," said Karl Hirsch, CEO of Protexis. "When publishers choose Protexis customer registration services, they get the confidence of a best-practices solution that gives them the flexibility and freedom to apply their strategic marketing programs to the data Protexis has collected."

"CNET Networks serves a strong and vibrant community of software publishers who harness the power of the internet. CNET's partnership with Protexis reflects its commitment to help publishers take their business even further. Protexis customer registration services can help publishers turn trial users into long-term customers," said Scott Arpajian, senior vice president of CNET Download.com.

CNET Download.com is the Web's largest download site, delivering more than 2.4 million downloads each day. Protexis develops the Protexis Publisher Services suite of hosted, commerce-enabling services for publishers: Protexis Merchant Services, Protexis Registration & Trialware Services, and Protexis Licensing Services.
